About Alex
Alex Alvarova is a Czech-Canadian author, speaker, and expert in cognitive and narrative warfare. She has written two acclaimed books, dozens of analytical essays, and hosts a popular podcast exploring one central question — how modern democracies are being quietly dismantled through manipulation, propaganda, and information warfare.
Her work combines political insight with a storyteller’s instinct, making complex systems of influence understandable to the general public. Alex’s lectures and media appearances focus on resilience, democratic culture, and the psychology of manipulation in the digital age.
She speaks Czech, English, and German, and has a working knowledge of Russian, Spanish, and French.
Journey
Predicting Cognitive Warfare
Alex Alvarova has been a trailblazer in predicting the rise of cognitive warfare in Europe and the US, offering her insights and expertise to help others navigate this complex landscape.
2014 - 2016
After 15 years in political communications, Alex began working as the communications adviser to the Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee in the European Parliament. Her task was to grasp the most complex political concepts and translate them into engaging storytelling for ordinary people who have no time for complicated explanations. In 2016, Alex left her career in Europe and moved to Canada with her family.
2017 - today
In Canada, she wrote hundreds of articles and two books through which she tried to warn not only her fellow citizens in the Czech Republic, but also professionals in the security community. She kept writing about one single theme: the Russians are the best in the world at cognitive and psychological warfare, and they manipulate their enemies through intimate knowledge of — and well-funded relationships with — the platforms of Silicon Valley.
WORK
1. The Industry of Lies (2017)
2. Feeding The Demons (2020, thriller inspired by Steve Bannon's dark art of propaganda)
During her Canadian period, she wrote the non-fiction about Russian propaganda The Industry of Lies and a fictional thriller Feeding The Demons, inspired by Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s first campaign, and Russia’s role in the cognitive subversion of America. The Industry of Lies has already reached its fourth edition, Feeding Demons is being reissued this year, and the thriller sold out immediately. Here you can read the synopsis.
She is the co-author of the popular Czech podcast Canaries In The Net, which she creates together with Josef Holy, a renowned expert on AI and social-media algorithms. The podcast maps and analyzes the broader “big picture” of Euro-Atlantic geopolitics, examines the details of Russian subversion, and covers the latest AI trends from the perspective of cognitive warfare.

Behind the Mirror: Hybrid Warfare as a Renewed Phenomenon in International Relations (Monograph, co-author, 2022)
The volume offers interconnected essays by Czech authors who examine hybrid warfare and hybrid threats from multiple perspectives. The first section guides the reader from the history of wartime deception to today’s complex world in which the concept of hybrid warfare has emerged. It introduces the intricate dynamics taking place on the crucial battlefield of cyberspace.
The second section is devoted to the Czech context and shows how these threats are perceived within the Czech security system.
The third part of the monograph focuses on practical examples. It illustrates what Ukraine faced after being attacked by Russia in 2014, and it explores Chinese theories of a new conception of warfare unbound by traditional military thinking.

Project Radio Free America Prague
Her second big project, which Alex co-hosts together with American Natalia Kocab, is called Radio Free America Prague. It connects Czechs and Americans in their efforts to save their countries from sliding into authoritarian regimes. Alex is a Czech now living in the U.S., while Natalia is an American living in the Czech Republic. Together, they produce a podcast where democrats from both countries exchange advice and experience.
